Meet the Team - Interview with Maria Picassó Piquer, Icon Art Lead
Q: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us!
A: You're welcome. May this conversation be interesting for the game fans and inspirational for future videogame artists!
Q: Can you tell us how you came to work on Game of Thrones Ascent?
A: I'd already worked for Disruptor Beam in some of their previous projects. It was a satisfactory experience on both sides so Game of Thrones Ascent was a good chance to repeat it.
Q: What is your previous experience in art for games?
A: You can find some of my stuff in 50 Cent Blackjack, as well as in Ravenskye City, iOs game Desert Tycoon and some other future releases yet to be announced (I'm sorry, I always carry a huge suitcase full of NDA documents).
Q: What are some of the things you are responsible for in the game we see today?
A: I took charge of both talents and building upgrades icons. From the Arakh illustrating the "vicious" talent from the Roast Boar you can serve at your Feast.
Q: What are you most proud of, in Game of Thrones Ascent?
A: I really love the main "barter" icon (a hand giving out a turnip to another) because, as a player, when I'm on a quest in my mind it looks like I exchange everything for a turnip, and this results in a very good deal. My favorite icons are those which, despite their small size, will make the fans either smile or recognize something from the shows or even the books. Both the production team and myself have put special effort in that!
Q: If you could offer advice to aspiring artists out there, what would it be?
A: Work hard! There must be some amount of art skills, but practice, perseverance and passion are the key. When some time ago I received the e-mail asking me for availability to paint hundreds of icons for "a Facebook Game" I could just have run away. I didn't, so here I am.
Q: Tell us anything else you wish the fans to know about yourself or your work on the game!
A: I just hope they're enjoying my work here, together with the other awesome art that surrounds it.
Q: Thank you again, we're so glad you were part of the Game of Thrones Ascent Team!
A: Thanks to you, it's been such an interesting, involving experience. Just as the whole ASoIaF universe.
