Meet the Team - Interview with David Lecossu, Environmental Art Lead
Q: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us!
A: You’re welcome! It’s always with great pleasure that I share my experience and above all my passion with people.
Q: Can you tell us how you came to work on Game of Thrones Ascent?
A: Well, I contacted Disruptor Beam last June because I saw an advertisement online. The creative director of the company answered me quickly and we begin our collaboration with one or two illustrations just to see if things were working between us.
I guess it works as I'm here today to speak with you!
Q: What is your previous experience in art for games?
A: I'm an illustrator in freelance since 2009 so I've been working with various role playing games companies. I've been doing lots of game cards and illustrations. At the same time, I've integrated the video game company ‘Gameloft’, as a concept artist. In that context, I was working with other illustrators on games for the smartphones and Facebook. That was a great experience but I was doing just a part of the final illustration. In fact, the work was divided between the illustrators. Someone was in charge of the 3D basis, another of the character, another of the colour... prefer working in freelance because I do everything on my own, the missions are much more full line.
Q: What are some of the things you are responsible for in the game we see today?
A: I was one of the illustrators for the Game of Thrones Ascent. In fact, I’ve been doing mainly backgrounds and environments that adorn the different screens of the game.
Q: What are you most proud of, in Game of Thrones Ascent?
A: I’m always proud and I feel flattered to see my illustrations on a web based game like Game of Thrones Ascent. You know that a lot of people are going to enjoy the game and you are part of it!
Q: If you could offer advice to aspiring artists out there, what would it be?
A: It's very difficult to give advice as I still don't consider myself as a fully accomplished artist! I'm still learning everyday... The best thing I could tell all the young people wishing to be an illustrator is to practice. You have to practice everyday and to keep up with what the others do to improve your art. It's not simple because sometimes you would like to do something perfect in a snap of a finger but it takes a long time to reach a good level. It can be discouraging so be patient!
Q: Tell us anything else you wish the fans to know about yourself or your work on the game!
A: I don't know if people realize all the work done by so many artists and developers for a game like Game of Thrones Ascent. I just would like them to know that I have put all my heart on the illustrations they will discover so I will be really pleased if they enjoy it!
Q: Thank you again, we're so glad you were part of the Game of Thrones Ascent Team!
A: Thank you to let me be part of it!
