One year ago today, Disruptor Beam’s vision of a social Game of Thrones Ascent opened its gates to players. And what a year it has been! When the game launched, the quest line ended at Volume One, Player-to-Player actions were in their infancy, and you could only swear allegiance to five fealties. Alliance versus Alliance combat, Adventure Parties, and Seals were only bullet points on a backlog. The game has come so far, and we are far from finished! To celebrate the first year of Game of Thrones Ascent, we want to look back at how the game has grown.
The day we opened Game of Thrones Ascent, we had more than 30,000 players sign up in the first 24 hours, and 115,000 sign up in the first week. Since then, nearly 3 million people have played Game of Thrones Ascent! And of the 115,000 intrepid nobles who registered in that first week, more than 23,000 are still playing today, one year later! This is truly humbling for the development team, and we owe so much of our success to you and your continued loyalty. We cannot thank you enough.
Since launch, we have added three Volumes of over 1,100 original quests to the game, including a new batch of quests accompanying each episode of Season 3 on HBO! In the time since the Season 3 finale, we have steadily added weekly quests to the game through Volume You, and our writers are looking forward to crafting additional original quests for you through new Fealties and Season 4 of the HBO show. Where else can you watch your favorite show on Sunday, then play it on Monday?
Our creative team strives to produce gorgeous visuals with each content update. Since we began working on Game of Thrones Ascent, our artists have produced over 14,500 pieces of in-game art. That’s over 17 gigabytes of imagery that mirror, take inspiration from, and expand upon the show and books!
To help celebrate a year of Game of Thrones Ascent, we have added a limited-time quest line “One Year Older” that allows you to craft the powerful Children of the Forest Bow! May we recommend sending an Adventure Party of Sworn Swords to The Neck to gather some Dead Weirwood? It won’t be there for long!
We will also be adding a new fealty very soon, the Tullys! Bringing with it a new talent page, a new building, and over a hundred original, Tully-only quests, this will provide players with a new perspective on our existing quest line and the events of Season 4. Also look for a new desktop wallpaper showcasing Riverrun, the Tully’s ancient stronghold.
In April, look for our eighth fealty, the fiery Martells, and the debut of Season 4 in both the HBO Show and Game of Thrones Ascent. As with Season 3, you can expect weekly quests and items every Monday morning after the show airs!
Also coming soon, look for Game of Thrones Ascent to go mobile on the iPad and Android tablets! Soon you will be able to Fight, Trade, or Spy with the swipe of your finger!
And there is even more in store we can’t yet tell you about. We cannot wait for the year to come! Enjoy the anniversary items, anniversary quest, and get ready for a new and exciting chapter in Game of Thrones Ascent! We’ll see you in Westeros!
