Let it be proclaimed: Slayer was one bloody phase! We are referring, of course, to the innumerable legions of Sworn Swords lost and fallen in the course of battle. On that score, Slayer certainly lived up to its name.
The above heat map depicts the overall number of dead Sworn Swords by region. Clearly, the East was far bloodier than the West. In particular, Crownlands and the Vale saw significant levels of carnage. Of course, with a Kingslayer title on the line, who can be surprised by the level of slaughter in Crownlands. As for the Vale, its Superlative was effectively a call to arms where attacks on Sworn Swords were concerned.
The two regions where the Superlatives actually called for the deaths of Sworn Swords were Riverlands (most defenders lost per participant; that is, Sworn Swords killed as a result of their self-sacrificing defense), and Iron Islands (most Sworn Swords lost by an Alliance; meaning, total Sworn Swords who died, regardless of what they were doing). Again, one of our data scientists took a particular -- if not macabre -- interest in these regional superlatives and the graphs he created capture the battle for superlative supremacy.
In Riverlands, where Sworn Swords fell thick, we can’t help but wonder what behind the scenes orders lead to Big Mamma’s House’s surge past the hardworking Knights of the Queensguard in the last 48 hours of the phase. But, just a word of good-natured caution to Big Mamma: this is how rivalries are born!
In the Iron Islands -- famous for its fair and humane treatment of fallen adversaries -- congratulations goes out to The Chaos Ladder for losing the highest number of lost Sworn Swords. A tip of the sword also goes to Kingswood Outlaws and Ghosts of Wynterfell, naturally, for placing second and third overall. Perhaps one day we will find out what happened to GoW after the second day in Iron Islands. A change of strategy, no doubt, for which countless Alliance Sworn Swords breathed a sigh of relief.
Incidentally, there was some confusion over the Superlative results coming out of Dorne this phase. After not appearing in the Daily Superlative Standings for several days, The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad suddenly appeared and went straight to the top of the standings.
The explanation lies in the definition of the superlative being ‘per participant’. For the first couple of days, DAS had only 4 participants, so were not eligible for this superlative. But, after a few days, they acquired more than 4 active participants, making them eligible for the Dorne Superlative.
As a reminder, the First-place Alliance in a region is not eligible for that region’s superlative, though they have the opportunity to win superlatives in other regions as well as The Big Bad superlative. The winner of The Big Bad superlative is ineligible to win other Superlatives.
The Big Bad: Highest Total VP earned by an Alliance across all regions.
